EVERY DONATION COUNTS

The Soup Kitchen, Inc. (the Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen) began operations on March 8, 1980 serving three meals a week. The Soup Kitchen, an independent non-profit corporation, now serves a large, healthy noon-time meal every day of the year. 46,497 meals were served last year. Sack lunch service starts at 11:30 AM. Lunch service starts at 11:30 and ends at 12:45 PM. We are working hard to get our new building remodeled and approved so that we can resume serving hot meals.

The Soup Kitchen is staffed by volunteers from churches, clubs, businesses, and schools who prepare and serve the meals. Most groups also purchase the food for their serving day. The Soup Kitchen has strong support from thousands of generous individuals, churches, organizations, and companies who are committed to taking care of those in need in our community.

Your support is vital to the Soup Kitchen. Less than 2% of our funding comes from grants…98% comes from individuals and businesses in our communities. We are not part of the United Way or Salvation Army — we are an independent nonprofit corporation. We need YOUR help: No Soup Kitchen guest pays anything for food or services.

One of every six people in the USA have some level of food insufficiency. Sadly, one in five children in the United States suffers from food insufficiency.
