EVERY DONATION COUNTS

The Soup Kitchen, Inc. (the Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen) began operations on March 8, 1980 serving three meals a week. The Soup Kitchen, an independent non-profit corporation, now serves a large, healthy noon-time meal every day of the year. 54,473 meals were served last year. Doors open at 11:00 AM. Lunch service starts at 11:30 and ends at 12:50 PM daily.

The Soup Kitchen is staffed by volunteers from churches, clubs, businesses and schools who prepare and serve the meals. Most groups also purchase the food for their serving day. The Soup Kitchen has strong support from thousands of generous individuals, churches, organizations, and companies who are committed to taking care of those in need in our community. Our database of volunteers and donors has now topped 10,000 entries.

Your support is vital to the Soup Kitchen. Less than 2% of our funding comes from grants…98% comes from individuals and businesses in our communities.
We need YOUR help: No Soup Kitchen patron pays anything for food or services.

One of every six people in the USA have some level of food insufficiency. Sadly, one in five children in the United States suffers from food insufficiency.

Our Wish List

  • Please do not  buy food for us–it is a waste of your time and money.  We can buy food cheaper than  you can, and donated food must be sorted, organized, cleaned, and inventoried.   It is far better to take what you would have spent and donate that money. See the orange donate button above?
  • If you already have food product on hand and wish to donate that, we will be happy to take it. If there are items that we cannot use, we will distribute them to our guests or to another non-profit corporation.
  • If you must donate items, these are things we use every day:
  • 6-oz Styrofoam Cups
  • Sporks
  • Luncheon napkins
  • Coffee creamer (dry)
